Outdoor Dining Tables: Gathering Space Under the Marbella Sky

Home · Outdoor Dining Tables

The outdoor dining table is the centre of outdoor life in a Marbella villa. Choose it well: get the size, material, and design right. Every summer evening becomes an event. Choose poorly and it ages badly, fits awkwardly, or fails in the first winter.

We represent outdoor dining tables from eleven furniture brands. The selection below represents our recommendations by material and aesthetic category.

Teak Dining Tables

Grade A teak is one of the most durable natural materials for outdoor dining tables. A properly specified teak table lasts for decades, weathering to silver-grey if left untreated, or keeping its warm tone if oiled yearly. Ethimo’s Kilt and Tribù’s Kos are good examples of teak dining tables.

Aluminium Dining Tables

Powder-coated aluminium does not rust or warp, and needs little more than occasional cleaning in coastal conditions. Kettal, Ethimo, Fast, and Point all make excellent aluminium dining tables.

Ceramic & Porcelain Table Tops

Several of our brand partners offer dining tables with ceramic or porcelain table-top inserts. These provide a non-porous, heat-resistant, scratch-resistant surface. Varaschin’s Plinto tables, for example, come with HPL or ceramic tops.

Size Guide

Two things decide the size of a dining table: whether anyone sits at the ends, and which chairs go around it. As a rule, allow about 70 cm of table length for each person along the sides; on a table at least 90 cm wide, one more person fits comfortably at each end.

4 people: 140 × 90 cm (two on each side), or a round or square table of 100–120 cm.
6 people: 160 × 90 cm with one person at each end; 210 × 90 cm with three on each side and nobody at the ends.
8 people: 220 × 100 cm with one at each end; 280 × 100 cm without.
10 people: 300 × 100 cm with one at each end.
12 people: 360 × 110 cm with one at each end.

The chair matters as much as the table. Slim dining chairs without arms can work with 60 cm per person; armchairs need around 70 cm, and the widest more. Some of the most comfortable outdoor dining chairs are also among the widest: for the Gloster Kay armchair, allow at least 80 cm per chair. Leave about 90 cm between the edge of the table and a wall or step so that chairs can be pulled out. Our team can work out the right size for your terrace and the chairs you choose.

Choosing the Right Table

Consider how the table will be used: daily family dining, occasional entertaining, or both. Consider also whether matching dining chairs from the same collection are important, or whether a mixed approach suits the space better. We carry coordinating dining chairs across all the collections we represent.
