Indoor Bioethanol Fireplaces: Clean Flame, No Infrastructure
A bioethanol fireplace changes the character of a room in the same way a fire changes a terrace: it draws the eye, anchors the space, and creates warmth that a radiator or underfloor heating can’t replicate. EcoSmart Fire Flex fireplaces bring this quality to interior spaces without the infrastructure requirements of gas or wood-burning fires.

No flue. No gas line. No building works. A bioethanol fire insert can be built into a new or existing wall, set within an architectural niche, or positioned in a custom-built room divider. Use it in any room, in any position, with no connection to any fixed services.
EcoSmart Fire Flex: The Architectural Fireplace
The EcoSmart Fire Flex is EcoSmart’s range of bioethanol fireplace inserts, designed in Australia: single-sided in twelve widths, and double-sided, corner, bay and peninsula versions. The Flex series gives architects and interior designers a genuine fire feature with none of the infrastructure constraints of conventional fireplaces.
How Bioethanol Fireplaces Work
EcoSmart Fire Flex fireplaces burn denatured bioethanol, a plant-based alcohol that burns to produce heat, water vapour and carbon dioxide, with no smoke, soot or ash. Burn time depends on the size of the burner, and we keep EcoSmart bioethanol in stock.
For Architects and Designers
EcoSmart Fire Flex is the fireplace solution architects and interior designers turn to when a client wants fire without the constraints of a conventional installation. No flue or gas supply to plan for, and nothing structural beyond the niche. Twelve standard widths give room to fit the design.
Installation
EcoSmart Fire Flex inserts are set into a custom-built surround. The surround design is the responsibility of the architect, designer, or builder. The insert drops in and is filled with bioethanol. There are no connections to make. We can advise on surround specifications, required clearances, and ventilation requirements.
Converting an Existing Fireplace
A wood-burning fireplace can be converted to bioethanol with an EcoSmart burner or fireplace grate set into the existing hearth: a real flame, with no flue, no smoke and no ash. See the EcoSmart burners.
